Beignets at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans - Photo Friday

cafe-du-monde

If you have have been to New Orleans then you too may have tried the very traditional snack of a beignet at the world famous Cafe du Monde. As you can see from the photo the correct way to eat a beignet (fried dough liberally covered in powdered sugar) is bent over at the waist. Or at least this is the only way we found to eat them without ending up covered in powdered sugar.

Cafe du Monde has burned down (I am going to guess in a grease fire) since we were there but has been rebuilt. They are also well known for their coffee with chicory.

The title made me all jealous (and hungry!) — the honesty of the photo made me laugh.

    Thanks for sharing!

Delicious! And a great picture. My children wouldn’t bother to bend over. I can only imagine that they would end up looking like they had been in a powdered sugar blizzard.

Mmmmmm. I can’t help but be jealous!

I’ve never been to New Orleans, but every so often I buy a box of Beignet mix and try my hand at making them at home. I’m sure they don’t compare, but they still make me happy.

New Orleans has definitely been at the top of my list of places I’d love to go some day!
